What did you find surprising or striking as you furthered your knowledge about how people learn?
Specifically nothing really leaps out at me. I do not mean by that statement I know it all or have seen it all. Somewhere along in my formal and informal education I learned people learn different ways. I guess I can say what is surprising is the varying degrees and complexities of how people learn.
How has this course deepened your understanding of your personal learning process?
Well simply put, the Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences opened my eyes to a lot about my wife, my two older kids, and me. After taking Edutopia’s assessment on Multiple Intelligences, I now have a clearer understanding of how I learn and the ones that are dear to me also. Sometimes I have nearly banged my head against the wall when my son oldest son does not get certain math concepts when I think he should by now. I have gained an almost instant better understanding of who he is and hopefully from now a more patient attitude.
What have you learned regarding the connection between learning theories, learning styles, educational technology, and motivation?
In a nutshell it is overwhelming the thought of putting together a course and trying to teach it. I have gained a greater perspective of respect for those who do teach courses online. There are so many issues and challenges to deal with.
How will your learning in this course help you as you further your career in the field of instructional design?
I may have hit a wall with this course. I do not currently work in the field of instructional design. After seeing there is much to address, I do not know if I am interested and motivated enough to take on such a task.
